Journal Focus and Scope

The fields and sections of the “Turkic Studies Journal” are determined by interdisciplinary nature of the publication and unique regional focus. Until recently, Turkological researches related to the Turkic written monuments undoubtedly evolved towards philological direction, in which the type of graphic system was determined, transliteration and transcription of the originals were carried out, their language was studied, and the texts of monuments were read and interpreted. However, modern Turkology is integrative, and developing in active connection with the humanities such as history, archaeology, ethnography, religious studies, linguistics, folklore and literature, which allows revealing a full picture of the spiritual and material culture of the Turkic peoples.

The integrity of modern Turkology is revealed in two main fields of the journal: historical - cultural and philological (linguistic - literary), each of which is divided into relevant sections.

Within the historical - cultural field, along with other sections (which will be mentioned below), the section Kazakh culture and art is important, revealing the unique Kazakh culture, art and mentality in the historical past and ethnic identity at the present time.

Therefore, within the historical-cultural field the following sections function:

  • History and Archaeology of the Turkic peoples
  • Ethnoculture and religious beliefs of the Turkic peoples
  • Kazakh culture and art

In the philological field, articles devoted to the languages, folklore and literature of the Turkic peoples in their historical development and modernity are published. This field is divided into two sections:

  • Turkic languages
  • Literature and Folklore of the Turkic peoples

A separate section is dedicated to the overview information, which includes the Reviews of monographs and books relevant to modern Turkic studies.
